Art as a response to life--living for the hope of it all

I'm sitting here on my beautiful old rug, listening to Taylor Swift on vinyl. The sounds are so big and complex and fill me with "the hope of it all".

I googled around, trying to find out if blogging was still considered useful for artists in 2024. The articles I saw focused creating blog posts for optimizing sales funnels and storefronts and keywords for searches. Not hating on anyone doing that, it's just that I keep a full time job so I don't have to contort my creative space to fit where it just doesn't.

One of my very favorite concepts is "we vote for our reality with our imagination". So, as a vote for the reality I long for, I am going to blog like capitalism isn't watching, like art can just be someone expressing a response to finding themselves conscious in a strange little world.

My artwork is a record of my response to life. As a late-diagnosed autistic woman, it has always been a reliable coping strategy to pour my big feelings, confusion, frustration and oversized love onto a canvas (or page).

In the photo above, you can see two of the paintings I have selected to use in an application for an art show. My sensitive heart has grown so much in the last several years. She's ready to face potential rejection in ways she has never been before.

There's nothing I could be more proud of than the inner work I've done, since 2017 to be specific. It's been a long and hard journey but I've made it to a beautiful place of self-trust and self-acceptance. Progress is not linear, and I reserve the right to be unhinged, fluid and always learning, but I am happy to put myself out there again. I hope I will find my tribe. I hope I will be seen and understood. I hope it will be fun. But whatever. Happy Sunday. ♥️ ♥️
